Fans were particularly charmed by a yet-to-be-named song off Tendai’s forthcoming album and kept asking for replays during the show where the Barura Express leader shared the stage with Sulumani Chimbetu in the Sons of the Legends gig.

Despite playing a list of mainly renditions of his late father, the musician — who doubles up as the band’s lead guitarist — also dished out his own compositions from the album set for release in October this year.

The fans went ahead of him and christened the song Mushando.

Just as his father before him, Tendai’s songs are poetic, showing apt craftsmanship, coupled with captivating lead guitar sounds.

“The response from the crowd was overwhelming. It shows that I am moving in the right direction. I told myself not to rush things this time and that I will release the album with approval from the fans. I am happy that the song I played in Marondera has proved to be a hit and I will take it from there,” he said.

“There is still much to do. The songs and the album are yet to be named. I will do that after massive consultations with the fans.”

Music promoter, Daniel Masaiti, who organised the gig, hailed Tendai for the hard work on his new project.

“He has improved a lot. The songs he played today shows that he is getting better by each album. I am confident that Barura Express is here to stay if Tendai continues to maintain his late father’s music style like what he exhibited on the song,” he said.

Dembo has so far released one album, Kupakwashe, since taking over the reins at Barura Express.
