A 39-YEAR-OLD self-proclaimed prophet from Chinamhora in Domboshava allegedly raped one of his clients at his shrine last month, as his other clients queued for his services. The suspect, Jameson Denhere, yesterday appeared at the Harare Magistrates’ Court charged with rape.

Allegations against Denhere are that sometime in June at around 5pm, the complainant in the matter, whose details have been withheld, visited his shrine at Nyakudya Village under Chief Chinamhora.

The State alleges that on the day in question, Denhere invited the complainant into his shrine and persuaded her to sit on his knees so that other clients, who were in the queue, would not see him, but she refused.

The State alleges Denhere then forcibly grabbed the complainant’s hands and legs, felled her and raped her.

The complainant screamed for help, but no one came to her rescue, as Denhere’s clients allegedly suspected she was crying because of the pain caused by the cleansing process.

After her release, the complainant revealed the abuse to another church mate, who was in the queue, and they alerted some church elders, but Denhere denied the rape charge.

He, however, admitted fondling her breasts.

The matter was reported to the police, leading to his arrest.

Peter Kachirika appeared for the State.
