Mliswa yesterday said Chamisa’s elevation augured well with Yard’s push for youths’ active participation in national politics.

Chamisa was appointed MDC-T vice-president alongside Warren Park MP Elias Mudzuri to join Thokozani Khupe in a restructuring exercise described by party leader Morgan Tsvangirai as meant to bolster the labour-backed movement ahead of the 2018 elections.

“I have to be honest and congratulate the appointment of Nelson Chamisa into the presidium of the MDC. The elevation of the youth is a clear sign that the Yard ideals have been appreciated by major players in politics,” he said.

“His elevation falls under the purview of Yard to see young people in power. We are looking towards having young people who are credible and not corrupt to take leadership positions. Chamisa is not corrupt, he is charismatic and articulate on issues unlike (Zanu PF national commissar Saviour) Kasukuwere and others in Zanu PF who are embedded in corruption.

“Youths should dictate the future while in office, something that was lacking in Zimbabwe. A party which resonates and supports young people will have full support of Yard. This is a master stroke by president Tsvangirai.”

Mliswa added that even if he had presidential ambitions he would willingly stand aside and campaign for Chamisa as he pushes for a youthful president in 2023.

Yard has been pushing for the inclusion and active participation of youths in politics and leadership positions through policy formulation and constitutional consistency for the development of Zimbabwe.

The former Zanu PF Hurungwe West MP also said he was pushing for regional integration of Yard and other youth organisations with the same values.

Mliswa said he would soon invite former Zambian minister and Youth 1000 patron, Vernon Johnson Mwaanga, to address Zimbabwean youths on various issues.

“After a very insightful meeting with him, I extended an invitation to him to come and address the youth in Zimbabwe, an idea that he welcomed. Dates will be communicated soon.”
