Director Elliot Moyo said they were on a quest to redefine local theatre through high-quality cutting edge productions such as A Prayer for Grandma.

“The play is a modern and inspiring tale about family, friendship and love despite problems that may arise,” he said.

The play, presented in partnership with The Creative Co, follows the exploits of a broken family, which is forced to come together to save their ailing grandmother.

Moyo said he found it ironic that an unfortunate event such as a family illness could become the stepping stone towards its healing after a raft of conflicts.

The play’s co-producer, Mhle Nzima, said the play’s auditions attracted actors from beyond the country’s borders.

The cast included award-winning spoken word artist BlackLily — who plays Faith, a jilted housewife trying to move on — and outstanding hip-hop artiste Barry Changa.

Changa was the brains behind the popular Eversharp 15M animated rap advert and plays Henry, Faith’s cheating ex-husband who is still pining for her.

Award-winning house singer TKP, seasoned actor Andie Dube, model-cum-rapper Faizil and screen actress Sheron Dube are also part of the cast.

“Only a supernatural force could bring these warring sides together and that is Grandma’s unconditional love on a mission to heal them all despite her own illness,” Nzima said.

Early Entertainment said they were going all out to present the most elaborate set design possible to give their audience the most realistic experience possible just like they did with Voices in My Head.

The Art Gallery will be transformed into a whole new world for this one-night-only two-hour show whose advance tickets are pegged at $3.
