Omar Mateen, 29, entered the club and bar after 2am on Sunday and after initial gunfire, he took people hostage for three hours before a SWAT team entered and shot him dead.

He was armed with an AR-15 assault rifle, a handgun, and a device police originally feared was a bomb. The city of Orlando has declared a state of emergency.

Most of the victims were men ranging in age from 18 to 50, with many in their 20s and 30s.

Officials are publicly identifying victims only after their families have been notified.

Four Mexicans were among the 49 people killed in a gunman’s assault on a gay nightclub in the US city of Orlando, Florida, Mexico’s government said on Monday.
