Chucks Mazanza pleaded guilty when he appeared before Harare magistrate Nomsa Sabarauta.

Allegations against Mazanza include negligent driving and failing to stop after an accident.

The State alleges that last Friday around 9am Mazanza was driving a Nissan Caravan commuter omnibus along Seke Road and was travelling due north.

Upon approaching the flyover near the intersection of Julius Nyerere Way and Kenneth Kaunda Avenue, Mazanza allegedly stopped and dropped off passengers before driving away using the middle lane.

The court further heard Mazanza then collided with Munyaradzi Marimo’s motorcycle, which was on State motorcade escort duties and was sounding a siren.

Marimo fell down and sustained a swollen right foot, while his motorcycle’s handle bars and oil pump were damaged.

Mazanza’s vehicle sustained a small dent on the right fender and its right corner lamp was broken.

The State claimed Mazanza was negligent because he failed to stop or act reasonably when a collision was imminent and also keep his vehicle under proper control.

After the accident, Mazanza allegedly sped off to Chitungwiza, where he was arrested the same day in Unit N Seke, Chitungwiza shopping centre around 3pm.

The court heard that Mazanza did not have a valid defensive driving certificate nor a medical certificate, as required by the law. Devotion Gwashavanhu Nyagano appeared for the State.
