The home side was looking to make up for the weekend setback, where they lost at home against newboys Mutare City Rovers, but all they could manage was a single point when their situation clearly demanded more.

Yesterday’s match was characterised by the brandishing of seven yellow cards, while Hwange defender, David Boriwondo was sent off by referee Hardley Ndazi.

On the half-hour mark, Chipangano were denied by the woodwork when Pritchard Mpelele’s shot bounced off the crossbar before Innocent Muchaneka’s follow-up also hit the frame.

In the referee’s optional time in the first half, Mpelele again hit the crossbar, as Hwange sought the elusive goal.

The second half was a much tighter affair, with the two teams restricting each other to speculative shots.

Chicken Inn coach, Rahman Gumbo applauded his boys for shutting out Hwange, having been under siege for long periods in the first half.

“I’m not complaining. The boys put up a good performance. The rhythm was not that good, but we managed to hold Hwange on their own turf,” he said.

Hwange coach, Mebelo Njekwa said it was a fair game, but expressed disappointment at how his charges took turns to spurn good scoring opportunities.

“It was an even game. The boys did well, but they wasted a lot of opportunities that came our way. It seems they have adopted a near-miss trend, which we need to move away from,” he said.

With the draw, both teams moved to 14 points, but Chicken Inn climbed up to eighth on the table, while Hwange remained rooted on 11th, hovering dangerously close to the chop zone.

This weekend, Hwange travel to Harare to face in-form Caps United at Rufaro Stadium on Sunday, while Chicken Inn host log leaders Highlanders at Barbourfields Stadium.
