Music promoter Hillary Mutake of Punchline Entertainment, who is also HKD brand manager, told NewsDay yesterday that the deal was a positive move towards the growth of the genre.

“Freeman’s signing of a one-year endorsement deal with one of the top men’s wear shops, Raffles, is a sign that he is doing well in the music industry that even corporates want to partner with him,” he said.

“As part of this endorsement deal, Raffles is also going to be part of some of Freeman’s projects like the upcoming DVD album launch set for next month.”

Mutake said getting recognition from the corporate world was a positive development that will help dancehall artistes to be more professional in their conduct.

Raffles business development manager Tendai Nyandoro said they chose Freeman because of his style, which he said suited their brand.

“I can confirm that we have engaged Freeman to become our brand ambassador after considering both his music and works in the community to be ideal in line with our operations,” Nyandoro said.

Freeman said the endorsement will help him to grow his brand.

“I am happy to have clinched such a deal, which is an indication that the corporate world is showing confidence in me and appreciating my music,” he said.

Some local companies were now appreciating artistes from different genres beyond the stage as they sought to use their fame in branding their products and services.

Several musicians have clinched endorsement deals and were consequently appointed brand and goodwill ambassadors respectively.
