The game started on a high note with Hwange’s Newman Sianchali beating defender, Munyaradzi Sako and goal minder, Philip Nhete before hooting over early.

A similar chance presented itself 9 minutes before half time, however, Sianchali for the second time blazed over the bar.

It was the Eastern Highlands side that played with a lot of bravery, dominating play for the better part of the game.

They were rewarded when Sithole and Stephen Sibanda combined for the Mutare-based side to yield fruits on 24 minutes.

The visitors almost doubled their lead in the 57th minute, but Ngondonga sent a shot which was pushed out by Chipangano goal minder Future Sibanda.

Dejected Chipangano caretaker, Mebele Njekwa described his boys’ performance as below standard arguing that they had donated the three points to the Mutare side.

“The boys underestimated their opponents they went into the field with the mentality that Mutare City is a small team and that really cost us big time. We literally donated the three points to the visitors,” Njekwa said.

City’s assistant coach Kenneth Kachara said the win was important and was testimony that they had improved their game after changing the team line-up.

“I must say we have improved our game after changing players we had when we played Caps United. We are very happy that we managed to scoop three points away from home.”
