A 51-YEAR-OLD Harare man, who raped and sired a child with his daughter, will rue the day he bedded his own blood after being slapped with 18 years behind bars.

The Epworth man, who had been bedding his daughter for five years since 2010 when she was 14, left the court in shock after pointing out that his relationship with his daughter was consensual.
“I actually proposed love to her. I wooed her for some time. Initially, she refused, but later told me she also loved me like any other woman would do to a man who asks for love,” the man, who will not be named to protect the identity of the victim, said.
However, prosecutor Norman Tsarwe castigated the convict in aggravation, saying it was shameful to note how a father could openly utter love words to his own flesh and blood.
“This case is unheard of in our culture. To say that she agreed will never correct your actions. We persuade the court to impose a harsh custodial sentence for such cases,” he urged the court.
In passing sentence, regional magistrate Adoniah Masawi said the case was one of the most shocking in Zimbabwean society.
The court heard the convict last slept with his daughter on May 29 this year.

The rumour of the shocking affair reached the man’s family, resulting in his sons seeking advice from their 70-year-old grandfather.
The court heard the elderly man promised to settle the issue at family level and summoned the unfortunate girl, who is now 20, to his place of residence, where he allegedly threatened to report the incest if she refused to also sleep with him.
The court heard the girl then removed her clothes and let her grandfather abuse her so as to seal the secret.
But her father is said to have continued raping her in lodges around the capital and was now renting a place for her, where he would go and continue to abuse her.
The girl’s grandfather was arrested first following a tip-off to police by concerned members of the public.
Upon getting the news, the convict fled to Nyanga, where he was arrested at a traditional healer’s home in Ruwanga, where he was seeking assistance to stop the police from following up on him.
