THE ruling Zanu PF party has virtually imploded in Masvingo province, with mudslinging reaching fever pitch at the weekend following a reported no-confidence vote in acting chairman Amasi Nenjana and his executive.

With Zanu PF virtually split between two factions, one reportedly led by Vice-President Emmerson Mnangagwa and another loyal to First Lady Grace Mugabe, Masvingo has become the latest epicentre of the vicious power struggles.
But Nenjana, women’s league chairperson, Veronica Makonese, youth league leader, Nobert Ndaarombe, provincial political commissar, Jappy Jaboon and Masvingo Urban MP, Daniel Shumba yesterday scoffed at their expulsion.
“The Saturday meeting was void because, as the chairperson, I was not consulted. Nobody holds a Zanu PF event without my knowledge in Masvingo. They have made a determination that I must be removed, but for no reason,” he said at a hastily organised Press briefing in Harare.
He claimed he was being politically persecuted for demanding transparency in the distribution of food aid.
“My only crime is that I have demanded transparency in the distribution of maize. The province received maize from a local company and by our calculation, each of the 26 constituencies in the province was to receive at least 44,9 tonnes through their MPs. However, some did not receive because some Zanu PF leaders want to use partisan processes. They want to use the maize to undermine sitting MPs in preparation for the coming elections.”
Nenjana was thrust into the hot seat after the removal of elected chairman, Ezra Chadzamira early this year, but war veterans have pulled their weight behind the Mnangagwa faction in the province, leading to outbreaks of violent confrontations.
