ORGANISERS of the Zimbabwe International Book Fair p(Zibfa) scheduled to run from July 27 to 30 yesterday unveiled the theme of this year’s edition of the literary extravaganza, which will be held at the Harare Gardens.

This year’s edition of the fair will be held under the theme: “Igniting Interest in Reading for Sustainable Development”.
Zimbabwe International Book Fair Association (Zibfa) interim chairperson Blazio Tafirei, who confirmed the dates and theme in an interview with NewsDay yesterday, said July 27, would be book traders’ day, while the public will partake of the book fiesta during the last two days.
“Although preparations are at a preliminary stage at the moment, we are confident that international publishers’ associations will be part of the exhibition, with three nations having already confirmed to be part of the exhibitors,” he said.
“As usual, we will have our two-day indaba on July 25-26 and at the moment we are in the process of coming up with topics to be discussed and the names of the presenters.”
Tafirei said this year’s theme came from recommendations made by participants at last year’s Indaba and was tied in with the improvement of people’s lifestyles through qualitative and functional education, incomes, skills development, ability to read and write and employment opportunities.

Although Zibfa executive chairperson, Obey Bvute, early this year told NewsDay at an Anti-Book Piracy Workshop in Harare that book piracy would be a thing of the past soon, the anti-piracy programmes targeting writers, publishers, booksellers, librarians and printers were yet to record significant results.
