The Silva soap opera is set to continue despite the DeMbare hierarchy having reportedly reached a decision to let the Portuguese mentor go.

It is only the absence of club president Keni Mubaiwa that has afforded Silva another week and another match as Dynamos coach, insiders revealed.

Dynamos secretary-general, Webster Chikekengezha denied any knowledge of a meeting that decided Silva’s fate, but confirmed that they were waiting for Mubaiwa’s return so another meeting could be convened to map the way forward.

Chikengezha said Silva and his backroom staff, who include assistant coach Lloyd Mutasa, will take charge of the match against FC Platinum on Sunday.

“The president is not around. We are waiting for him and only after we have met, we will be able to state the official position,” he said.

“What I can just confirm is that the technical team will be in charge of the match against FC Platinum on Sunday.”

Informed sources, however, maintained that Silva and his backroom staff would be relieved of their duties after the match against the Zvishavane side.

The sources said while the whole technical team was set to be given the boot, Mutasa was set to bounce back and take charge of the team.

The outcome of that match against Norman Mapeza’s FC Platinum, who sit second on the league log only due to an inferior goal difference to log leaders Caps United, is inconsequential.

Silva, appointed in January, had been given a target to collect nine points from three matches against Mutare City, Caps United and Hwange, but managed just four.

Dynamos overcame Mutare City 2-1 in their only win of the season so far, before losing 1-0 to bitter city rivals Caps United and then a 0-0 draw with Hwange at the Colliery.

While the club leadership could not make a final decision on the future of the coach because of Mubaiwa’s absence, they generally agreed at a meeting on Tuesday that Silva had failed the club and should be relieved of his duties.

Mubaiwa has been away for the past week attending to personal business and his absence meant the other executive members could not make a binding decision.

Critics have questioned the logic of experimenting with Silva, whose history in coaching is mysteriously untraceable. But it appears the Dynamos hierarchy have finally decided to part with the Portuguese, five months after he was appointed to lead the Glamour Boys.
