SOUTH African gospel sensation, Rebecca Malope’s fans in Bulawayo on Sunday defied the chilly weather and thronged Queens Sports Club where she headlined the Gospel Divas family show, a follow-up to the one held in Harare a day earlier.

The weekend shows, traversing two cities, were meant to celebrate Malope’s 30-years in music.
Clad in a glittering yellow gown, Malope made a grand entrance around 7pm, with a worship song, Mighty God.
As the night wore on, fans joined the gospel music queen on stage with well-choreographed dance routines to songs such as Mangingavumi. Supported by three backing vocalists, Malope had the fans eating out of her hand.
The gospel diva said she loved Zimbabwe.
“I have so much love for the people of Zimbabwe. They are appreciative and I enjoy performing here a lot. Thank you for coming to celebrate my 30-year journey in the music industry. Zimbabwe is like my second home, I will always come here,” she said.

The event, which started in the afternoon, saw other gospel divas such as Olivia Charamba, Tholakele and Abigail Mwembe entertaining fans who had braved the cold. Charamba brought the house down with the track, Africa.
Excited fans later requested for Charles Charamba, who was part of the Fishers of Men band backing his wife, to perform, although he had not been scheduled to stage an act. He subsequently performed Machira Chete to the fans’ delight.
Show organiser, Barbra Chikose of Red Rose Entertainment said the show was also meant to be a belated Mothers’ Day celebrations.
“It’s also meant to celebrate our mothers and this is the best way to do it, we thank Bulawayo for being appreciative we hope to do more for the city,” she said.
