The officer, only identified as Inspector P Chimukaka, who is based at ZRP Gokwe traffic section, will appear before magistrate, Vimbai Mutukwa facing allegations of destroying evidence allegedly implicating a Constable Magidi in a case of bribery.

The State, led by Michelle Daraja, alleges that on December 6 last year, Chimukaka received $98 which included a marked $10 note as an exhibit in case CR12/12/15.

He is alleged to have swapped the $10 note with serial number ML07573120A with another, thereby allegedly prejudicing the possible outcome of the criminal case, which was being pursued against his colleague.

The State alleges that at the time the case against Magidi was about to go to court, police discovered that Chimukaka, who was at the time officer-in-charge for Gokwe traffic, had replaced the exhibit money with another note.

He was immediately charged with “omitting or negligently performing any duty or performing his duty in an improper manner”.

Chimukaka was supposed to face a suitability board within the police force, but he has opted to have his matter heard in an open court.
