UNITED States Agency for International Development (USAid) top official Dina Esposito this week visited drought-prone areas heavily affected by El Nino weather patterns to assess food security issues in Zimbabwe.

BY STAFF REPORTER

Esposito, who is acting deputy assistant administrator in the Bureau for Democracy, Conflict and Humanitarian Assistance in USAid, visited Hwange and Tsholotsho, where she encouraged Zimbabweans to learn more about El Nino and other weather patterns in order to find ways to mitigate their effects.

USAid has to date provided more than $50 million in emergency funds to the World Food Programme.

About 200 000 food-insecure people were assisted in seven districts in Hwange, while 2 000 cattle belonging to 600 households were protected against tickborne disease, while rehabilitation of a dip tank will assist 1 200 cattle and 400 goats.
