Although Fungisai did not respond to messages sent to her yesterday while her phone was not reachable, NewsDay Weekender understands the latest developments could have been torched by the negative reports that accompanied her adoption of Zimdancehall music.

The concert, organised by Red Rose Entertainment, has a stellar line-up of top local female gospel acts including Olivia Charamba, Carol Chivengwa, Agatha Murudzwa, Joyce Simeti, Mercy Mutsvene and newcomers Olinda Marowa, Sharon Manyonganise, Jennifer Maneni and Talent Mabika.

The music star, who made her name on the back of classic songs such as Vanogona, Toita Zvedenga and Makomborero, told NewsDay early this month that the cyber-bullying she experienced following the circulation of her pictures on social media and a Zimdancehall collaboration she did with Killer T would not make her give up because she was “a soldier”.

National Blood Services Zimbabwe (NBSZ) spokesperson Esther Masundah has meanwhile dismissed rumours making the rounds that gospel-cum-Zimdancehall musician Fungisai Zvakavapano-Mashavave had been relieved of her ambassadorial role following the storm surrounding her adoption of Zimdancehall music.

Masundah, however, said she was not aware of any such developments as Fungisai worked with them on a voluntary basis.

“I don’t know where those rumours are coming from, but as far as we are concerned, Fungisai is still our brand ambassador. She is yet to communicate to us of such developments as you know our brand ambassadors work as volunteers unlike others who are paid for the ambassadorial role,” she said.

NewsDay Weekender understands that Fungisai’s ambassadorial role was uncertain as she has not been available for many of their programmes and they could only engage her if she availed herself.

“If she is available, we will work with her,” industry sources said. “Her name is still there although of late we have not been working with her.”
