Rovers had a poor start before they staged a mini revival that did not last long, as they returned to their losing ways. Triangle’s victory at home followed their draw against Bulawayo City at the same venue on Sunday, which left them frustrated.

The home side scored through Ralph Kawondera in the 46th minute before Nelson Maziwisa doubled the lead in the 68th minute, while Simba Makoni put the final nail on the coffin in the 83th minute.

Rovers got their consolation through Russel Madamombe in added time before the final whistle from the penalty spot.

Triangle came flying out of the blocks, with Maziwisa’s header crashing against the frame of the goal four minutes into play after connecting a Brian Juwayeyi cross.

Rovers’ shot-stopper Phillip Nhete produced a double save to deny both Courage Denias and Maziwisa from close range.

William Mapfumo, another Rovers player, watched in disbelief as his shot missed the target by a few inches.

Triangle started the second half the more determined side just like they did in the first, with Kawondera getting to the end of a Juwayeyi cross.

The visitors’ head coach, Taku Shariwa, switched struggling Stephen Sibanda for Caleb Masocha in the 66th minute, who also failed to click.

Maziwisa scored a spectacular goal in the 68th minute to send the home side into a frenzy before Makoni added another one with a header in the 83rd minute after receiving a great cross from the in-form Marvin Gaki.
