A goal in each half from Brian Abbas Amidu and Leonard Tsipa earned the visitors maximum points over the hosts, who got their consolation through Edmore Chirambadare.

The win might have calmed the nerves of the legions of their supporters, following the team’s failure to win in their previous two matches when they picked up just one point to lose the top place on the log as well as ground on FC Platinum, who had opened up a five-point gap.

Coach, Lloyd Chitembwe had said in the run-up to this match, he was not panicking over the two results where they lost to How Mine before they battled from behind to force a draw against visiting ZPC Kariba on Saturday.

They will go into the international break a happy family, looking forward to their next match.

Chitembwe expressed satisfaction with his team’s performance that lifted them into second position on the log with 17 points to their credit.

“We played the way we wanted to play, as offensively as we could and we were threatening from the outset and defensively, we were very organised. So I am happy and satisfied with the outcome of the match,” he said.

His Chicken Inn counterpart, Rahman Gumbo kept journalists waiting in vain in the post-match conference room, as he held discussions with his backroom staff on the pitch side.

The hosts began the match on a bright note with midfielder Tafadzwa Kutinyu forcing the visitors’ goalkeeper, Jorum Muchambo to tip his shot for a corner just two minutes into the match.

It took a while for the Green Machine to settle and when they eventually did, Dominic Chungwa saw his pinpoint header kept out by Chicken Inn keeper Elvis Chipezeze on 32 minutes.

The opener came a minute later when Amidu shot powerfully past Chipezeze from inside the box after the Gamecocks failed to deal with a cross from the left channel by Phineas Bamusi.

Caps United’s lead was short-lived, however, as Chirambadare drew his side level on 35 minutes when he shot past Muchambo on the second attempt after his initial free kick had been blocked by the Caps United wall.

After the break, the visitors quickly regained the lead through veteran Tsipa, who finished off yet another Bamusi cross, with a brave diving header from close range on 49 minutes.

Chirambadare had a chance to, once again, equalise for the Gamecocks a minute after Tsipa’s goal, but narrowly missed the target from a good position.
