BULAWAYO City picked up their second win of the season when they edged fellow Castle Lager Premier Soccer League debutants Ngezi Platinum Stars at Barbourfields Stadium yesterday.

Eddie Nkulungo blasted the ball past Ngezi goalkeeper Blessing Mwandimutsira in the 37th minute, taking full advantage of a rebound after the latter had fisted an Innocent Kutsanzira shot back into play.

Ngezi’s only shot at goal was in the first half optional time when skipper Innocent Sokosi’s header was punched away for a corner kick by Bulawayo City goalkeeper Liberty Chirava.

With the win, Bulawayo City moved above champions Chicken Inn, Hwange and Harare City on the log table to seventh with 11 points.

Bulawayo City coach Philani “Beefy” Ncube was ecstatic at the victory, but said he still needed to work on his side’s finishing.

“It is very important that we got the three points, but we wasted several chances, particularly in the first half,” he said.

“We go to the next assignment (against Mutare City Rovers) with our confidence high, but we will take each game as it comes. There are a number of positives, but we should work on our conversion rate.”

Ngezi assistant coach, Joseph Takaringofa said his boys played well, but blamed the defeat on bad officiating from referee Thembinkosi Sibanda.

“We played very well, but conceded a silly goal. The officiating was not good as well as all the decisions were going against us, but we don’t want to comment much on that because at the end of the day, we get punished,” Takaringofa said.

Ngezi have picked up one point from the last three games, following a draw against Chapungu last Saturday at Ascot, which leaves them stagnant on position 11 with eight points from as many matches.
