The university’s assistant manager for brand creativity and talent development, Moreblessing Shumba, said the cultural fiesta drew more than 150 nationalities, as has become the tradition over the last four years.

The cultural fête was this year held under the theme, Be a Global Citizen, in line with the university’s cultural thrust.

“This year, the event hosted wonderful performances from over 40 countries including a cultural bazaar designed by students representing over 60 countries from around the globe,” Shumba said.

“This year saw a footfall of approximately 12 000 guests and highlighted the multi-cultured mindsets shared by Limkokwing students. The theme reflected an exposure to the huge network of peers from all corners of the globe.”

A delegation from the UZ’s English Department and Press Club made up of Ruby Magosvongwe, Brian Madongonda, Melody Chamba, Melania Musanhu, Lonias Majoni, Leroy Kandeya and Priviledge Gwamba represented the country as “special guests” at the festival.

UZ Creative Writing and Dance Club president, Madongonda confirmed that they received a special welcome.

“Our stay was only for five days, but we learnt so much from the university’s diverse culture. It’s unique, because, although we’re all different and come from different countries, we felt as if we were all one,” he said.

Some members of the delegation showcased local traditional dances such as mbakumba and dinhe, which are performed during religious, social and ceremonial festivities in some parts of Zimbabwe.

The festival, according to Shumba, foster relations between students and during the fiesta, the students put up their best efforts to represent their home countries by producing craft, making food, and performing in national costumes.

Tourism Malaysia director general, Y.Bhg Datuk Seri Mirza Mohammad Taiyab, officiated at the ceremony.
