Borrowdale Race Course

Dancehall star, Winky D and Jah Prayzah tomorrow headline this year’s entertainment bill at the country’s prestigious horse racing event, the Castle Tankard after-party at Borrowdale Race Course. The Disappear and Kumbumura Mhute hitmakers will be supported by urban groover XQ and celebrated wheel spinner, DJ Stavo at the potentially explosive event.

Winky D has proved himself as a great stage performer, easily getting the crowd to chant along with him, while Jah Prayzah is a crowd puller of note and he will have his work cut out for him, as he will also be out to defend his man-of-the-moment tag, with sungura ace Alick Macheso giving him a run for his money after the release of his Tsoka Dzerwendo album.

Urban groover XQ has proved to all that he is no push over, but a force to reckon with in his genre, as he commands a decent crowd at his live shows.

Zimbabwe-German Society

Local artistes across genres, among them Prudence Katomeni-Mbofana, award-winning poet Batsirai Chigama, Cynthia Mare, Blessing “Bled” Chimanga, Anti-Gravity Dance Crew and Caroleen Masawi, join hands for charity tomorrow as they will take turns to entertain guests at Zimbabwe-German Society in a concert aimed at raising funds for Women’s University in Africa student Tapiwa Sachiti who has been diagnosed with a rare bone cancer, Benin Osteoblastoma, a bone-tumour cancer that infiltrates into the bone marrow.

The concert dubbed The Bigsmile Project, which is being held with the support of the Italian Embassy seeks to raise $42 950 to help the 23-year-old second-year psychology student travel to an Indian hospital for surgery.

Theatre in The Park Internationally-recognised Afro-Fusion band Mokoomba, contemporary musician Jah Prayzah and his Third Generation band tonight share the stage at Theatre in The Park, Harare Gardens at a show dubbed Sounds in The Park, courtesy of Brand central TV. The two crowd pullers will be supported by neo-soul musician Donovan Mtangira. This will be the third show to be held at Theatre in The Park, a venue that has become home to the arts industry in the country.

Among musicians who have performed there are Bob Nyabinde and Wilbert Marowa and Friends.

Harare International School

Dance Trust of Zimbabwe in partnership with NGUWO Inc. tonight presents a century of fashion, The Ballet, an amalgamation of 100 years of fashion trends interpreted through the lifelong relationship between fashion and ballet at Harare International School featuring Zimbabwean ballet dancers, fashion designers and musicians.

Arundel School Chapel

Acclaimed South African pianist Ammiel Bushakevitz will on Sunday give recitals at Arundel School Chapel in the capital. The award-winning Bushakevitz, who is appearing in the country as a guest of the Classical Music Association of Zimbabwe, is performing for free in order to support the Zimbabwe Academy of Music in Bulawayo.

After his Harare performance, Bushakevitz heads to Bulawayo for another show on Thursday at Robert Sibson Hall.

Born in Jerusalem and raised in George, South Africa, Bushakevitz performs internationally as a soloist, a chamber musician and as an accompanist of singers across Europe and the United States of America. He is a laureate of the International Schubert Competition, the International Johannes Brahms Competition, the International Art Song Competition in Stuttgart, the Concours Léopold Bellan in Paris and the Berlin International Song Competition “Das Lied”.

Zimbali Gardens Top performers Jah Prayzah, Leonard Zhakata and gospel singer Thembalami tonight will take turns to entertain guests at The Commander Zimbabwe National Army Charity Ball slated for Zimbali Gardens off Greendale Avenue in the capital. Dr. Chomi Makina will be the guest speaker at the event.

La Rouge Lounge Dendera musician Sulumani Chimbetu and his Orchestra Dendera Kings tonight take their act to exquisite upmarket pub, La Rouge located at Westgate Complex in the capital. Tomorrow they travel to Mashonaland Central for a performance at Shamwari Joe in Mvurwi. Sulu will be sampling some of his new songs off the forthcoming album as a way of marketing it.

Mhizha Sports Bar Sungura musician Peter “Young Igwe” Moyo and his Utakataka Express are back home after a successful Botswana tour last weekend that saw them entertain patrons in Francistown and Gaborone. The Kwekwe-based musician tonight performs at a welcome back gig slated for Mhizha Sports Bar in Budiriro 4. Tomorrow they take their act to Werras Sports Bar in Glen View 1, supported by raunchy dancer Beverly Sibanda.

Club Las Vegas Rising dancehall musician T Makwikwi tonight launches his debut DVD Club Las Vegas supported by an array of chanters, among them Killer T, Kinnah, Bontoman, Mostaff, Dobba Don, Lady Banks and Spiderman. Titled Ngoma Mufone, the DVD which carries videos like Makunakuna, Mafireworks, Ngoma Mufone, Ndoshuwa Dega, Ndovaonesa Hora, Tichakwira Bhazi and Usandibate had some scenes shot in South Africa and Harare respectively.

Club Manucho Sungura musician Romeo Gasa and his Extra Valembe tomorrow entertains revellers at Club Manucho located in Waterfalls. Simbi Hombe, as the musician is affectionately known, will be supported by Tendai Dembo, son of the late sungura great Leonard backed by his Barura Express

Pedu Sports Bar Straight Outta Fio Kings tomorrow present Dancehall Time Part 2 featuring Black Tribe Sound, with a special appearance by Legend Elly back-to-back with Silver Platta Records at Pedu Sports Bar in Highfield.

Gunners Night Club Gunners Night Club, Pamastones, tomorrow hosts top DJ Bento Birthday bash presented by Mantis and Regoman, featuring BodySlam, Judgement Yard, The Basement Sound, among many other top wheel spinners.

Chinhoyi Hall Gospel music lovers will be in for a treat tomorrow as the Mhere brothers, Mathias and the Saints of God ensemble and Daniel and The Gospel Hurricanes share at Chinhoyi Hall. Mathias and Daniel are on a nationwide tour to promote their latest albums. Mathias is promoting his album titled Double Double, while Daniel is taking his Heavy Rain to the people.

Club Mandisa, Mutare Sensational rhumba songbird Lady “Eriza” Storm, who has taken the showbiz industry by storm after featuring in Jah Prayzah’s video Eriza, tomorrow entertains revellers at Club Mandisa in Mutare. Fans will be in for a treat as Lady Storm, born Lynn Magodo, backed by her Swagga band have a record of leaving mainly male patrons salivating with her energetic and captivating performance, and well-choreographed dance routines. DJ Silver Vibes will be rocking it on the turntables.

The Platinum Bar, Mutare The granddad of music Dr. Oliver Mtukudzi and his Black Spirits tomorrow travels to Mutare for a performance at The Platinum Bar formerly Pick N Save.
