Masenza told the court his wife, Viola Munzunza, visits his workplace and assaults him in front of his bosses whenever she wanted money for their child’s upkeep.

The court also heard Masenza now risked losing his job as a result of Munzunza’s “wild behaviour”.

“This woman harasses me in front of my workmates and at times she even grabs me by the collar and tears my clothes. I am now scared that if she keeps coming to cause a scene at my workplace, I may eventually be fired,” Masenza said.

In response, Munzunza dismissed Masenza’s claims, saying he was lying and was only trying to avoid maintaining his child.

“I only went to his workplace once when I wanted to ask for money to pay for my bills from him. He is irresponsible and on that particular day he gave me a dollar yet I needed $375 for an operation,” she said.

Masenza, however, insisted his wife was in the habit of manhandling him while at work and to bolster his case he produced video footage from his phone as evidence in court. In the footage, Munzunza could be seen grabbing Masenza by the collar and shouting at the top of her voice while his workmates watched.

Asked whether she was the one in the video, Munzunza confirmed, but said it was a once-off incident.

Presiding magistrate Barbara Mateko granted the order and barred Munzunza from assaulting Masenza.

“If he loses the job, what will happen to you and the baby? If you want money, approach him with respect,” Mateko said.
