The matter came to light at the Civil Courts when the woman, Precious Chipfurutse, filed an application against her husband, Willard Tumbare, accusing him of forcing her into sexual intercourse.

The matter was heard by magistrate Barbara Mateko who granted the protection order and barred Tumbare from physically, verbally and sexually abusing his wife.

Chipfurutse told the court that many a times, Tumbare would engage into sexual intercourse with her without her consent.

“Whenever I deny him sex, he forces himself on me,” she said.

The court also heard that Tumbare was in the habit of verbally abusing his wife by labelling her a prostitute.

In his response, Tumbare said Chipfurutse was in fact a bad apple in the relationship since she has been starving him of sex since their marriage. “We have had fights over sex since we got married because she denies me my conjugal rights whenever she feels like,” Tumbare said.

He also told the court that Chipfurutse did not want to go for HIV testing and had forced him to stop using condoms.

The court further heard that Chipfurutse usually comes home in the wee hours of the night.
