TEN-MAN Border Strikers lost their fourth consecutive Castle Lager Premier Soccer League match and this time to fellow new boys Mutare City at Maglas Stadium yesterday.

Sam Misumbu’s solitary strike was enough to condemn the Saul Chaminuka-coached side to yet another defeat and they are still to find the net in all their matches.

The Beitbridge-based side had to fight the duel from various fronts with some of their senior players on strike and failing to travel to the Midlands for their home match.

Border Strikers players are believed to be protesting the authorities’ condemnation of Dulibadzimu as unfit for top-flight football.

They were forced to loot from their juniors registered with the elite league after some of the players expected to take part refused to travel.

After the duel, Chaminuka blamed the defeat on the industrial action in his camp.

Club secretary-general Rodlet Chigwinya expressed hope that the issue would be addressed by the time they play their next home game.

“It is a very sad situation for us, but we hope to find a solution quickly. The authorities told us what we have to do for our venue to meet the required standards,” he said.

“We are working on those areas and by the time we play our next home match, we would have invited the authorities to assess the venue,” said Chigwinya.

Mutare City Rovers coach Taku Mushariwa was happy with the maximum points.

“We dominated the match in all the departments and I am happy with the performance of the boys,” said Mushariwa.

Border Strikers had a Herculean task in the opening stanza and had to play with a man down for the better part of the match.

They were reduced to 10 after half an hour of action when Prince Sibanda was given his marching orders following a challenge on Musimbu.

After the breather Mutare City started to make the most of their numerical advantage dominating their opponents, but without creating clear goal-scoring opportunities.

Ten minutes before full-time Border Strikers’ resolve was breached when Musimbu connected a cross from the right to give his side the lead.
