Suspected Zanu PF supporters on Wednesday pounced on Wrest Kambaza , a nephew of Zimbabwe People First (ZimPF) leader Joice Mujuru, burning a gazebo at his farm in Bindura and destroying property worth $2 500 in a suspected case of political violence.

Kambaza, who is a son of Mujuru’s brother, Charles, works in Bindura.
He reported the matter to the police at Bindura under case numbers CR 36/04/16 and DR060416. Mashonaland Central police spokesperson, Assistant Inspector Petros Masikati was not reachable for comment yesterday.
Kambaza said the attack came a day after he was summoned to a Zanu PF youth meeting, where he was accused of being a ZimPF supporter and mobilising people to resist contributing to this year’s Independence Day celebrations.
He claimed to have been threatened with unspecified action during the meeting.
“On Tuesday, I was called by Zanu PF youths and threatened for supporting Mujuru, who is my relative. My father is Mujuru’s elder brother. They said people were now refusing to contribute towards Independence Day celebrations because I was mobilising them to snub the celebrations and support ZimPF,” Kambaza said.

“On Wednesday morning, around 4am, my gazebo was burnt, destroying a motorbike and vehicle tyres that were inside. The fire also burnt the rear of my Toyota Liteace truck parked nearby and destroyed several windows and doors of the main house and storeroom.
“I woke up and heard voices. One of them was commanding others to leave, saying they were through with their task. They wrote on the walls of one of the houses that ‘we have fixed you, down with Mujuru, before they left.”
Kambaza said he identified the voices as belonging to two Zanu PF youths, who are employed by the Youth ministry.
“I recognised the voices, they belong to Zanu PF youths (names supplied), who had threatened me at a meeting. One of them is the district chairperson of Border Gezi, a Zanu PF administrative district, and he is also employed by the Youth ministry,” he said.
This is not the first incident targeting ZimPF members in Bindura. Last month, Zanu PF youth besieged war veteran Ambassador Agrippah Mutambara’s farm and threatened to invade it as punishment supporting ZimPF. They were later dispersed by Bindura police, but threatened to regroup and hound him out of the farm.
Mutambara has already declared his support for Mujuru.
