HIGHLANDERS . . . . . (1) 2 TSHOLOTSHO . . . . . . (1) 1 YOUNG Prince Dube rose from the bench to inspire Highlanders to their second win of the Castle Lager Premier Soccer League season after scoring a gem of a goal that condemned an otherwise determined Tsholotsho side at Barbourfields Stadium yesterday.

The two sides went into the second half tied with a goal apiece with both strikes coming within the first ten minutes of the match with William Stima scoring first for Tsholotsho after just four minutes.

Stima’s converted from a seemingly harmless effort from a free kick which managed to beat a badly positioned Highlanders’ goalkeeper Ariel Sibanda on the near post.

Two minutes later Highlanders’ main man Knox Mutizwa restored parity tapping in a King Nadolo cross to beat goalkeeper Chang Mariyoni.

Dube replaced Adrian Silla in the 60th minute and barely three minutes after his introduction, put Highlanders ahead after a build-up that involved Mutizwa, Rahman Kutsanzira and right-back Benson Phiri.

Despite the victory coach Erol Akbay was not particularly pleased with the performance.

“I was not happy with the game. We gave too much space to the opponents and our defending was not very good but what is important is the three points and we have to keep on winning,” Akbay said.

Veteran Joel Luphahla had a field day in the middle of the park benefitting from sloppy marking by Highlanders.

He set up Mostafa Ponyera in the 19th minute in one of his raids but the forward had his goal disallowed after the second assistant referee flagged him for offside. Dylan Chivandire came close after 57 minutes but his flick was gathered by Sibanda in goals for Highlanders.

Tsholotsho coach Lizwe Sweswe said that it was a tough match for his side but was happy with the performance.

“It was a tough game. We lost but I am happy with the way my boys played. I am going back to the drawing board to prepare for our next game against Chapungu,” Sweswe said. It was their second defeat after losing the first game 1-2 to FC Platinum at Mandava before a win against Bulawayo City 1-0.
