Dynamos coach Paulo Jorge Silva unclipped

The former Premier Soccer League (PSL) champions were left stranded after coach Paulo Jorge Silva failed to bring the promised Brazilians, who were supposed to solve striking frailties and have been left scrounging on the local market to fill in the open slots, and, more importantly, find the elusive goals.

Soon after his appointment, Silva vowed that he would not sign strikers from the local scene promising to get players from beyond the borders which saw Dynamos leaving slots open for the players that never came.

Dynamos lost 3-0 to Chicken Inn in the first match of the 2016 PSL campaign, before they were held to a goalless draw in front of their home fans at Rufaro Stadium in week two of the new season. Gwekwerere is back in the country, three years after he left for Mozambique where he has been plying his trade turning out for Ferroviario de Maputo.

The striker met with Silva and his assistant Lloyd Mutasa yesterday with the intention of discussing an offer.

He was in the company of his manager Frank Bokosho and Silva declined to discuss the matter with the media.

But Bokosho confirmed that Gwekwerere was targeting a return to the Glamour Boys.

“Gwekwerere is back in the country. He has been in Mozambique playing for Ferroviario, but we have made a decision that he should come back home because things have not been going on well there.

The coach (Silva) has said he wants to assess him with a view to signing him on,” Bokosho said.

Gwekwerere, who also had a stint with city rivals Caps United having also played in South Africa, said Dynamos had always been his home and he was happy to be back.

“I have not played for a while and I just want to train with them to regain fitness. We will then take it from there,” said Gwekwerere.

Dynamos have endured a difficult start to the season which has seen them losing five matches they have played so far, including cup competitions.

Crucially, their forward line led by Rodreck Mutuma has failed to find the back of the net and observers have pinpointed the lack of goals as the team’s Achilles heel.

Silva’s decision to let veteran striker Takesure Chinyama go has backfired and should they seal a deal with Gwekwerere, he would come in as a direct replacement for the big forward, who has since relocated to Poland.

Stunned by the team’s poor start to a campaign that had promised so much before its start, the DeMbare bosses this week gave the coaching department a target of nine points in their next three matches failure of which they will all be fired.

Dynamos have to win against Mutare City, the big Harare derby against Caps United and Hwange for the coaches to save their jobs.

The Glamour Boys make the trip to Mutare on Sunday to face Mutare City Rovers in week three of the league and a stumble there will effectively end Silva’s flirtation with the club he joined in January.

If the Gwekwerere deal sails through, will he in his second coming turn DeMbare’s Messiah?
