Godfrey Tsenengamu (Mashonaland Central), Godwin Gomwe (Harare) and Vengai Musengi (Mashonaland West) were further remanded to May 5 after the State indicated that police were still investigating the matter.

Prosecutor Sebastian Mutizirwa told the court the investigating officer was yet to record a statement from State witness, Kudzayi Chipanga, who is Zanu PF MP for Makoni West and national deputy youth secretary.

However, in response, the trio’s lawyers Tafadzwa Madzingira and Zivanai Macharaga told the court they would, at the next remand date, apply for the relaxation of their clients’ bail conditions.

The three political activists were last month released on $500 bail each coupled with some conditions by provincial magistrate Vakayi Chikwekwe.

As part of their bail conditions, they were also ordered to report to Harare CID Law and Order once a week on Friday, surrender their passports, continue residing at their given addresses and not to interfere with State witnesses until finalisation of the matter.

Allegations against the youths are that on February 16 this year, two days prior to the aborted war veterans’ meeting at City Sports Centre in the capital, they sent WhatsApp messages to Zanu PF youths urging them to join the Save Zanu PF campaign.

They were also allegedly overheard inciting other youths to go to war over maladministration in Zanu PF. They also allegedly torched Zanu PF campaign T-shirts bearing First Lady Grace Mugabe’s portrait in protest over the disruption of the war veterans’ meeting by police.
