South Africa-based Zimbabwean dancehall chanter Teban Cee (25), has attracted big names in the Jamaican dancehall circuit including Gyptian, Clint and Massicker for collaborations as a way of perfecting his music.

“The collaboration with Massicker on a track titled Vibesy came about when the artiste came to South Africa on a tour promoting his album, One Wish. I shared the stage with him and got so close after he liked my music before he suggested collaboration,” he said.
He said the collaboration with Gyptian on the song Slow Wine was done after the Jamaican’s agent asked him to add some of his verses and it worked well.
The Thank You hitmaker has used social media to court Jamaican artistes. He said all the international riddims in which he has featured were made through Facebook through which he contacted several international producers.
“I sent them my music and asked them if they could feature me on their upcoming projects. Many loved my music and sent me instrumentals to work on,” Teban Cee said. However, the musician is more popular and commands a larger following across the Zambezi River than in Zimbabwe.
“I have been nominated more at South African music awards than at home, I think it’s because of the language I use, English,” he said.

“I make music that will appeal to the international market that’s why I run around to get international collaborations though I have featured on many Zim dance-hall riddims namely MadLevel Riddim produced by Chillspot records on a song called Haizi Bho, Valentines riddim produced by Irie Records on a song called Yuh Love, Fingertip riddim on a song called One Day.”
Born Simbarashe Edgar Jacha in Harare, Teban Cee attended Mazowe High School. He lived with his mother in Glen Norah before moving to South Africa for greener pastures in 2008.
His song My Year on the Rasta Love riddim produced by Kenyan Felix Kanyi got him nominated for the best upcoming artiste on Mzansi Reggae Awards 2012. He was also nominated for Best Zim dancehall artiste in the Diaspora in 2014.
Teban Cee is currently working on his forthcoming album titled Blessed moments which he is working with Shumba Records, Rebel Liberation and Yavox production.
