CONTEMPORARY Bulawayo-based artiste Nkwali born Nomathamsanqa Mkhwananzi on Friday celebrated her musical success including her recent award at the Zimbabwe Music Awards (Zima) in style at the National Bulawayo Art Gallery.

The well-attended show organised by Alliance Française was graced by the who’s who in the Zimbabwe’s arts sector.
Nkwali, a co-pioneer of the famed Inkululeko Yabatsha School of Arts (Iyasa), performed songs from her debut solo album Sithokozile which won her best acapella album at the recent Zima awards.
At the show, she proved and showed her talent by performing her songs in traditional imbube and later on switching to live instruments belting out tracks such as Malayisha, Confuser, Uthando, Bazali bami and a dedication to the Iyasa member Emmanuel Dlamini among others.
“My years with Iyasa taught me a lot and helped me to strike the right codes and right direction. Many people had urged me to release my solo album way back, but felt late last year was the right time for me to do it,” Nkwali said on the sidelines of the show.
“I thank everyone who helped me to be the musician I am today, Iyasa, Jeys Marabini and Albert Nyathi among others not forgetting the fans who take their time off their busy schedules to watch Nkwali, I am humbled.”
