Muchena replaces Piraishe Mabhena, who has since been co-opted into the Zifa executive committee.

Eighteen clubs and nine Zifa provincial affiliates from three provinces (Manicaland, Masvingo, and Mashonaland East) voted in yesterday’s election and there were two spoilt papers.

Veteran Eastern Region administrator Tedius Machawira confirmed Muchena as the new chairperson of the region.

“We are hoping to work well with the new president, that is what we are all looking forward to,’’ he said.

Muchena worked within the region’s administration for the several years and he recently served as the Eastern Region board member responsible for finance.

“The new president is now expected to plan ahead of the upcoming season, we don’t have dates, but early April we are going to start our season,’’ Machawira said. Muchena has already indicated that he wants to rebrand the Eastern Region in line with the national association’s grand plan to change the image of the association.

Before the elections, Muchena promised to rebrand the region and help bring sponsorship, as well as help the mother body achieve its goals.
