Macheso’s manager Tich Makahamadze confirmed the developments to NewsDay yesterday, saying the album would be available in different formats, including online, to cater for fans in the Diaspora, who will get the album the moment it will be officially released.

“We have received requests from some of our local fans that they want the album to be available on cassettes and as a way of showing gratitude to our paymasters, who have stood with us despite starving them for about three years, we saw it fit to have the album on cassettes,” Makahamadze said.

“We are still working on the number of cassettes, although we had an experience of a bigger run on cassettes more than CDs previously. After conducting our research, we have established that we still have a significant number of fans who play cassettes, so we must not let them down.”

Makahamadze emphasised that more than 100 000 copies of the six-track album would hit the streets on Monday and would be available across the country as they have more than 500 distribution points available in a move to counter piracy.

“Mobile teams co-ordinated by Nash Paints and Zimbabwe Red Cross Society, who are our partners and primary distributors of the album, will be in different corners of the streets across the country selling thousands of the CDs at $1 each,” he said.

“For our South African fans, the album will be selling from R50 at New Town (Mashate Restaurant) and Boksburg Hotel.”

Local music marketing and distribution company, Jive Zimbabwe, are organising the massive album launch three days after the release (March 24) at the Harare International Conference Centre.

Tracks to be featured on the album are Baba, Kurarama Inyasha, Gungwa, Wandirangaridza, Mude Mude and Munyaradzi, all inspired by people’s social life in their day to day living.

The Madhawu hitmaker has been a victim of piracy, with his albums Kwatakabva Mitunhu (Kure Kwekure), Ndezvashe, Vapupuri Pupurai and Zvinoda Kutendwa being pirated before they were released.
