BUDDING gospel artiste Ellen Anderson has decried the lack of opportunities for many upcoming female gospel singers in desperate need of platforms to showcase their skills as top promoters often opted for established musicians.

Anderson said most female musicians were unhappy with music promoters who they said either sidelined them completely when they organised shows, or gave them a raw deal compared to their male counterparts.
“We have female gospel musicians in the country who can compete well with the male musicians, but it is unfortunate that the female gospel artistes are not being given the same opportunities as males to showcase their talent,” she said.
“We have been discussing this with other female gospel artistes and we have agreed that this has been a major setback in our profession.”
Andersen, who is also a pastor with Nyasha Faith Ministries International, said it would be difficult for female gospel artistes to penetrate the market without the assistance of promoters.
“We are advocating for promotion within this sector. I can see myself at the highest level of gospel music in the next five years. What we only need is to create synergies with promoters,” she said.

Anderson is currently riding a wave of success through her recently released second album Nguva YaMwari that features Blessing Shumba and Lawrence Haisa. Shumba was featured on the song, With God, while Haisa appeared on Ndichaimbira Jehovha.
Andersen’s debut album, Mwari Vanoziva, was released last year. The 10-track album comprises praise and worship songs which include Chisimbiso, Kutsauswa, Murume, Farai Munashe, Mirira, Seiko, Mufundisi and Bhuku Reupenyu.
She said she was already working on a DVD that would carry songs on this album and is expected to be out in this month.
