MDC-T secretary-general Douglas Mwonzora claimed that armed police stormed into three offices used by himself, party leader Morgan Tsvangirai and party spokesperson Obert Gutu.

“In the morning the police came and cordoned off the offices at Harvest House with eight trucks full of anti-riot officers and they didn’t talk to anyone or ask anyone questions,” Mwonzora alleged.

“Normally, we are eager to assist police and I approached them in the morning and asked exactly what they were looking for and said we are here in terms of order. After that, in the early afternoon they then raided Harvest House, got into the building to fish out members of staff, including people who are working in our card processing centre.

“They also raided the president’s office and proceeded to the secretary-general’s office and they had a brief stop on the fourth floor in the information department and what they were looking for we have no idea,” Mwonzora added.

The raid came as the MDC-T was organising a protest to force government to account for the missing $15 billion diamond revenue.

The demonstration is scheduled to take place on April 7.

National police spokesperson Senior Assistant Commissioner Charity Charamba said: “That place had become notorious for harbouring people who terrorised passersby. Just last week two soldiers were assaulted as they walked past Harvest House. The area had become a no-go area and yet people are allowed to freely walk past important places such as Munhumutapa Building, Parliament, Defence House.”

Charamba added: “We have screened the suspects we had rounded up and detained three whom we believe were behind the skirmishes. I would like to put it on record that Komichi was never arrested in connection with the matter.”
