Mushandu said she was humbled by her victory and dedicated her crowns to those who have stood by her in her modelling career.

“I am so humbled by winning these titles, I had to stop myself shedding tears on stage, but I am grateful for the support and this award is dedicated to everyone who has stood by me or encouraged me from the time I was young up to now,” she said.

The beauty queen, who had taken a four-year hiatus from modelling while focusing on her film studies, said the pageant organisers were still drafting her contract following the victory.

“My contract is still being drafted at the moment so I will know what the full package is later, but it all involves a modelling contract, so bit by bit my career is starting to pick up again.

Zimbabwe, I love you and I am proud to be a Zimbabwean,” she said.

The former Miss Zimbabwe said her dream was to become Miss Universe and walking on the ramp at the World Super Model pageant, in its ninth edition, could have opened the doors for her.

Mushandu’s spokesperson, Rumbidzai Matinanga, applauded the model for her efforts at the pageant that drew 40 models from across the world.

“It is every contestant’s desire to come up top at any pageant she would have participated in and for Malaika to land these two crowns is something special for both her career and the nation,” Matinanga said.

Malaika rose to fame when she became one of the youngest winners of the Miss Zimbabwe pageant in 2011.

She also proved that she was a force to reckon with after finishing ninth at the 2011 Miss World Pageant, becoming the second person to raise the Zimbabwean flag that high at the prestigious pageant.

In 2013, Malaika was named as one of Zimbabwe’s finest top 40 hot, brainy and influential women.

World Supermodel Pageant is an international competition for models aged between 16 and 19 years and 20 to 30 years that was created to find upcoming supermodels. The pageant showcases the world’s latest fashion trends and leading designers, while exhibiting and promoting each representative’s country’s culture and lifestyle.
