The expo, which is a specialised exhibition for the agricultural sector value chain and aimed at growing the market base for agricultural companies, will be held from April 14 to 16 in Chisamba, Zambia.

The country’s trade promotions body, ZimTrade, will lead the participation of the local companies. The event, according to ZimTrade, affords participants an opportunity to showcase farm equipment, agricultural inputs, poultry and fish farming, agro-processing, among others.

Expo organisers said the event was focusing on bringing together end users and farming professionals to meet directly with vendor companies.

“It is a business-to-business platform for agricultural professionals, small-scale farmers and commercial enterprises,” ZimTrade said.

“This year’s expo will incorporate more interactive features such as, a technical workshop for farmers and equipment demonstration. The new interactive features include, crop trials, and combine harvester arable farming trials, as well as irrigation demonstrations.”

International players from Germany, United Arab Emirates, United States of America and the United Kingdom, will be participating at the show.

More than 15 000 farming professionals, from emerging, smallholder to commercial farmers are expected to attend this year’s show.

Last year, more than 12 000 agricultural business decision-makers and 110 exhibitors from 29 countries in Africa, America, Europe and Middle East participated at the expo.

Zambia has become one of Zimbabwe’s strongest trading partners after South Africa.

According to ZimTrade, Zimbabwe is exporting farm implements, coal, packaging material, tobacco, fish, wood, furniture and tea to it northern neighbour.

Total trade between the two countries was worth $283 million in 2014 and is governed by the Comesa and Sadc trade agreements, which offer preferential treatment for qualifying products into each other’s market.
