‘I’ll make sure Mugabe loses 2018 election’

Former war veterans’ leader Jabulani Sibanda yesterday vowed he will make sure President Robert Mugabe and Zanu PF lose the 2018 election.

This came as war veterans were reportedly plotting to doorstep and remove Mugabe as their patron at their next meeting, accusing the veteran politician of failing to represent their interests.

Commenting on the alleged plot to remove Mugabe as war veterans’ patron, Sibanda said: “I don’t have a patron; I am my own patron. Why don’t you ask (Zimbabwe National Liberation War Veterans’ Association chairman Christopher) Mutsvangwa? The patron of the war veterans is the President; he is the one who fired me.

“If I want to remove him, I won’t do a hatchet job, I will make sure he is also removed as President. In fact, I will make sure that Zanu PF loses in the next elections.”

According to well-placed sources in the war veterans’ camp, the freedom fighters were pushing for an urgent meeting with the veteran politician, where they will tell him they no longer had confidence in his leadership following the relentless attacks by him and his wife First Lady Grace Mugabe on war veterans.

The sources said the war veterans, most of them sympathetic to a faction led by Vice-President Emmerson Mnangagwa, were also angered by the attack on the VP in the same manner former Vice-President Joice Mujuru was hounded out of the governing party and government before the December 2014 congress.

“The majority of the war veterans are miffed by what’s going on in the party, especially the unwarranted attacks directed at them especially those coming from the President and his wife,” the source, who declined to be named for fear of reprisals, said. The sources also refused to disclose much detail about the “plot” for fear of scuttling their meeting with Mugabe.

But Mutsvangwa yesterday distanced himself from the alleged plot, claiming it was a falsehood peddled by the Generation 40 (G40) faction to “frighten” Mugabe from meeting the war veterans.
“It’s a malicious concoction of G40,who thrive on falsehoods,” Mutsvangwa said.

“G40 wants to frighten His Excellency, the patron, out of meeting his fellow war veterans. Are they now holding him prisoner away from his own life? War veterans are one and the same with Zanu PF. No amount of calumny by Johnnie-come-latelys will ever make me leave the revolutionary party. G40 wartime deserters are now using scarecrows to portray genuine cadres as apostates.”

Mutsvangwa said G40 was a “post-Rhodesian imperial project against war veterans” and he was determined to close ranks with war veterans.

“Yes, indeed. That is why I had a meeting with Jabulani Sibanda. G40 is a post-Rhodesian imperial project against war veterans, their traditional enemy, who deposed their racist colonial order,” he added.

The war veterans were due to have a meeting last month, but it was violently crushed by the police, who said the freedom fighters had not been sanctioned to hold the meeting.

In the aftermath of the abortive meeting, Mutsvangwa was slapped with a three-year suspension from the party and fired from Cabinet.

Mutsvangwa, who was instrumental in the ouster of his predecessor Sibanda, has of late teamed up with him and at the weekend they jointly addressed an ex-combatants’ meeting in Bulawayo.

About his meeting with Sibanda, Mutsvangwa said: “Old war veterans are allowed to share their past, compare notes and map out scenarios. I was sure not the first to hobnob with Sibanda. G40 rushed to cajole him against me. But kisses go by favour. They (G40 kingpins) can only gulp the fury of the scorned. You just can’t buy a tempered war veteran on the cheap of the patronage, he begot the nation.”

He added: “I am determined to close war veterans’ ranks. There are concerted efforts within and without the party to marginalise and politically disenfranchise them. G40, by its nomenclature, is discriminatory and targets G60 and 50 who have revolutionary ethos.”

Referring to the proposed meeting between war veterans and Mugabe, Mutsvangwa said: “The meeting of war veterans and their patron will be held under the auspices of War Veterans minister Tshinga Dube and politburo war veterans’ secretary Sydney Sekeramayi.”

Demented Jabu! Pliz spare us the delusions. The only reason why you ever became what you are today was because Mugabe allowed you to. He gave you cover and impunity as you went around intimidating rural people. Your circumstances have changed since your firing from zanupf. So pliz wake up and smell the coffee. And for the avoidance of doubt zimbabweans do not need you to free them from Mugabe’s yoke so that you can once again threaten them saying you, Jabu liberated them. Zimbabweans are their own liberators. All they need is a level playing field. I am sure without the intimidation of rogue war veterans like you Jabu zimbabweans can use their vote to remove Mugabe.

    I write from your grave

in fact its you Ndimba who is disillusioned.Mugabe owes the War Vets more than they owe Him.They elevated him during wartime and they have proped him in peacetime. And now he dumps them like an old mop.Now he employs his famed divide&rule tactic against them. Its Mugabe who should be ashamed for dumping his wartime Cdes for his Wife and a few Johny-come-Latelys.But now its different because the WVs have realised early the need to UNITE against this evil.

This Mutsvangwa guy is really possessed. Maybe its to do with the people he killed during the war. The spirits of the dead are not giving him rest. He is being tormented. Thats why he talks like that. You see him as a human being talking but in actual fact its a spirit.

Mr Jabulani Sibanda you are a used condom. Just yesterday, you did not want to hear anyone picking the nonagenarian to pieces. You went around making life a hell on innocent civilians and you want to go back again to the same civilians and tell them where to put an X.

These stories about Jabu and Chris are confusing to say the least. There is no specific agenda. Its just people blowing hot air. If these two are “madhodha esibili,” then come up with an agenda to remove Mugabe full stop. We know that when they finally meet the patron, they will boot-lick him, sing all the highest praises, shake hands, drink tea and say they have Mugabe`s best interests. Handei tione anamukoma.

It’s very clear thar Jabulani was deliberately quoted out of contest by the scheming News Dzeyi.Your head line is wishful and very misleading…

The green bombers which went through the indoctrination grill are now the Mugabe foot soldiers. The so called national service training centres which being were manned by war vets had nothing to to with producing political material for the country’s future leadership, but body guards for his family. He realised that the majority of war vets were ageing and no longer energetic to run around whipping the timid rural populace into submission. The utterances which were punctuated with threats to physically harm ex combatants by a Chipanga are enough testimony that should never be taken likely and have tacit approval of the first family.Unfortunately most war vets never realised it, at that point in time and the price being paid is now unbearable.

Go Jabulani Go. I am very confident that you are one of the people who is capable of removing Mugabe from power. In politics we dont have permanent enemies or friends but permanent interest that is to remove Mugabe from power. Even the young generation is not happy to see our fathers being tossed by one person as if they went to war to make Mugabe dynasty. Any person who is bringing that issue of your 2008 campaign is not serious about seeing zanupf falling. Lets embrace anybody who is capable, despite political background, to make sure Zanupf loses the next election. We need a new Zimbabwe. We are tired of Mugabe and his rule.

Who can, from a legal perspective, shed light on the prospects of the so called ‘secrecy Acts’ that hold back Mujuru , Mutasa and company from divulging what the evil they were part of for three decades?

I just enjoy the English that Mutsvangwa uses, no wonder why he was one of the best scholars of his time. It reminds me one of his relatives who taught us A level geography at Mizilikazi High, in Bulawayo, he was just a master-stroke like Chris. That you cant take away from him.

Newdsday people please instead of reporting on behalf of people like Jabulani on what they want to do against Mugabe and Zanu PF please ask them to clear their names first on their past evil attrocities. Dont give them space to misguide Zimbabweans and play mr nice now when everyone knows what they did to innocent citizens. Interview them and pressure them to tell us what they did, why they did that, and who was sending them then perhaps we will forgive them as Zimbabweans or deny them the chance to lead us. You are failing as journalists, mukutadza kuvaka nyika nekupa vanhu ava space and publicity.
