Dorren Mwedzi (32), of Mutamba in Macheke, pleaded guilty to the charge and was spared from going to jail after six months were suspended on condition of good behaviour, while the remaining months were set aside on condition she performs 420 hours of community service.

The court heard on January 23 this year at around 1pm, Mwedzi visited her former husband Huyekani Chiwawana’s homestead at Plot 36, Village 17C in Macheke, and assaulted his girlfriend.

As the attacks intensified, Chikwanha and his girlfriend fled from the scene to seek refuge, leaving Mwedzi at the homestead.

The court heard Mwedzi took advantage of the duo’s absence and set their house ablaze, resulting in property worth $6 420 going up in smoke.

The matter was reported to the police, leading to her arrest.
