National carrier Air Zimbabwe (Air Zim) is seeking to engage firms to provide insurance cover for its aeroplanes.

Early last year, the airline was rocked by a multi-million dollar insurance scandal that resulted from its appointment of Navistar Insurance Brokers in 2009 to handle the insurance of its planes.
The insurance transactions were said to have violated the airline’s tender regulations.
Some senior managers were arrested.
In a notice yesterday, the airline said prospective insurers should be of international standing in the sector.
“Tenders are invited from companies of International Standing in the Aviation Insurance Industry with at least a Credit Rating of ‘A” to submit proposals for the Provision of Aircraft Insurance Cover for Air Zimbabwe Aeroplanes for the designated period and subject to conditions set out in the request for proposal (RFP)” read part of the notice.
An optional site visit is set for Monday next week.
A forensic audit report prepared by BCA Forensic Auditors concluded that senior managers at the airline had taken part in the looting of millions of dollars through the insurance scam.
Air Zim secretary Grace Pfumbidzayi was early last year convicted and slapped with a seven year jail term with hard labour for swindling the national airline of over $10 million in an aircraft insurance scam.
In September, she was released from Chikurubi Maximum Security Prison on $5 000 bail pending appeal on charges of criminal abuse of office.
