Almasi acting spokesperson Tawanda Mupatsi said the festival was designed to identify, nurture and develop Zimbabwean writing talent in order to compete on the global stage.

“As we continue to make strides to ensure that there is a restoration of confidence and professionalism in the dramatic arts circles in Zimbabwe we are inviting interested playwrights to submit in a digital and accessible format of their full length original plays before the March 20,” Mupatsi said.

He said submitted works focusing on compelling issues should never have been published or produced before or during the festival, adding that all submissions should be emailed to Almasi artistic director Elizabeth Zaza Muchemwa on [email protected] bearing the name of the play, the author and contact details.

The festival seeks to equip local writers with the right skills to adequately tell the Zimbabwean story through globally competitive plays.

“Selected playwrights will be invited to for a workshop aimed to further develop their plays that will be presented at the festival as staged readings for local theatre enthusiasts,” he said.

Almasi Collaborative Arts was co-founded by Zimbabwe’s export to Hollywood, Danai Gurira, and talented veteran producer, Patience Tawengwa.
