Mutsvangwa, Sibanda gang up against Mugabe

AXED war veterans’ leader Christopher Mutsvangwa and his predecessor Jabulani Sibanda – who were both hounded out of their positions after being caught up in Zanu PF’s factional fights – are reportedly planning to gang up against President Robert Mugabe.

The former foes are reportedly planning a meeting after Mutsvangwa’s embarrassing ouster last week from both the politburo and government, where he served as War Veterans minister.

Although the purpose of the meeting was not clear yesterday, NewsDay understands that the two have been united by a common enemy, Mugabe, whom they now claim has been manipulated by his wife Grace and a Zanu PF faction, G40, to undermine the plight of the former combatants.

Sibanda yesterday constantly said he was in a meeting before his mobile phone later became unreachable, while Mutsvangwa referred NewsDay to his secretary-general Victor Matemadanda.

Contacted for comment, Matemadanda said: “I don’t know about the meeting, but they (Sibanda and Mutsvangwa) are comrades and if we are to work together, there are procedures to be followed.”
“It is not like when people separate, there is no chance for working together again,” he said.

“If there is need for working together, you might not need to ask, (but) you will see it happen. A lot of things happen within a revolution and you cannot rule out working together.”

Mutsvangwa, strongly believed to be aligned to Vice-President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s faction, played a central role in Sibanda’s ouster from the leadership of the war veterans’ association, accusing him of being sympathetic to former Vice-President Joice Mujuru.

Sibanda was kicked out of the ruling party in 2014 following his remarks that a bedroom coup had been staged in Zanu PF, which insinuated that First Lady Grace had usurped Mugabe’s State authority.

Both Sibanda and Mutsvangwa have been very vocal in the fight for the plight of war veterans. They both challenged Mugabe before their dismissal.

Although some war veterans have pledged loyalty to Mugabe, there is growing dissent within the ranks of Zanu PF, as some members feel they are being undermined by Grace.

Matemadanda said Sibanda and Mutsvangwa could work together to address several issues affecting war veterans in the country.

“They come from different backgrounds, which, when put together, might work for the better of them all,” he said ambiguously.

Matemadanda said no one could fire a war veteran from Zanu PF because of the role they played in keeping the party afloat.

“Who qualifies to more be Zanu PF – them or us? Who can fire us from Zanu PF? It is us who can fire people from Zanu PF,” he charged.

“We are the right people to fire people from Zanu PF.”

Former Zanu PF Mashonaland West chairman and now Youth Advocacy for Reform and Democracy (Yard) founder and national co-ordinator Temba Mliswa claimed he was working to bring the two together.

“They are likely going to meet soon. Mutsvangwa is a technocrat who focuses on policy issues while Sibanda is strong on operations and mobilising,” he said.

“Nothing better comes for the country than the two working together especially when looking at their attributes.

“The two are willing to meet, but right now they are busy with their tight schedules, but I can confirm that I met both of them and asked them to meet.

“They both said they have no problems with that. They must give us the way forward on the direction the country is taking.”

Meanwhile, newly-appointed War Veterans minister Tshinga Dube yesterday distanced himself from remarks attributed to him in the public media that he would soon convene a meeting for the ex-freedom fighters to elect a replacement for Mutsvangwa.

Dube said he suspected the remarks were part of a sinister plot to cause friction between him and Mutsvangwa.

“What was said in the story is not true. All I can say is I have received a baptism of fire. Mutsvangwa is still the chairman,” he said.

“It is not me who chooses leaders for war veterans. They choose their own leader and they are the ones and His Excellency President Mugabe who are responsible for removing him. I never said there will be elections to replace him. I repeat: I have no power to make such a statement.”

He added: “I am not a controversial figure. I don’t know why this boy (Chronicle reporter) deliberately distorted facts. He called me, but decided to mix and twist facts. I had decided to keep quiet, but it is good that I have to correct this. I have no personal vendetta with Mutsvangwa. I am not the one who elected him.”

If Mugabe survives these wars then i will regard him as a supper human. The situation on the ground is very sturbon for him. The divide and rule tactic has failed to help him to his advantage. But i blame him for all thiese problems. He was suppose to separate the issues of the party from openly supporting his wife who is much-loathed by the majority of this country. He must be much aware that those war veterans are the ones who made him be afloat in politics for all this long. His fall is imminent.

I give it to Mugabe. He is a very clever man. In fact, he is very intelligent. If you want to rise against this man, first sharpen your IQ, else you are doomed. For more than 36 years, he has been setting up people against each other to prop himself. Sadly, the foolish war vets never saw that Mugabe is the main problem.
      – They fired each other in pretended love for Mugabe,
      – They changed the party constitution all to protect Mugabe,
-They created funny structures like ‘one centre of power’,
      – They shut their ears to the cries of the general majority, they encouraged him to withdraw from Commonwealth on behalf of Zimbabweans,
-They cheered him as he shouted against western countries which we depend on, economically.
Now people think it’s Grace. I beg to differ, the problem was, is and shall always be that man, Mugabe. Even in his dotage, he continues to manipulate people. He is right when he says ‘there is none in Zim who can lead like I do’. He is right! I respect him for that.

Mugabe has defended his wife , suspended those he think are against G40 . He is to blame for all the chaos in his party. Sarah Mahoka and Kasukuwere challenged the vice President and were never reprimanded ,but when someone criticises mugabe and wife , he or she is suspended. Zimbabwe is not Robert and Grace’s private property ….

The new dawn of Zimbabwean democratic leadership is at hand. When a titanic is sinking it takes the lives of those who refuse to accept change by remaining in it. Every man has his breaking point everything that our dear leader is touching is turning to rust. Grace is now in charge and her politics of rumours have taken centre stage. The vapid and vacuous gang of four is enjoying every minute of it like the famous titanic band that continued to play when the titanic was sinking. In Mugabe’s own words time has reduced the party to ashes and Zanu is not the legendary octopus bird. Thank you for taking Zanu PF to your grave.

Confusion reigning supreme, I can tell the Mutswangwas, Sibandas etc a bunch of power hungry people, nothing will come out of them. They are just after lining up their pockets, they don’t have their comrades at heart. One day they separate the following day they are together and who is suffering the voiceless.

The problem in Zanu Pf and Zimbabwe is this: Mdhara= Grace + G40. It follows therefore that with Mdhara remaining in power both Zanu Pf and Zimbabwe are doomed. It is good that we can all see Mdhara’s love for power and his use of divide and rule tactics to prolong his rule even if he Is doing nothing about the welfare of Zimbabweans. Clearly Mdhara is now enemy No.1 and does not want Zimbabwe to progress.

Everything must come to an end,it is the inevitable product of the cycle of existence. What we are seeing today is the failure by the incumbent president and his hangers on to realise this fact, that Zanu pf and its leader are at the end of their existence. Therefore they try to fight this obvious truth around them as hard as they can and continue living lies but sooner or later it will dawn upon them that this is the beginning of their end.The End is here.

what kind of leader allows looting to occur for7 long years and then pretends he was not aware of the underhand deals? All of a sudden he wakes up and shuts down the diamond mines but forgets that he was hounding Tendai Biti accusing him of not accounting for the diamonds? Who allowed those miners onto Chiadzwa? who signed the term and conditions of those agreements? Did they not conduct due diligence to settle on a deal that would benefit the country as a whole? The truth is that geriatric dictator was aware of every single deal and probably benefited from each one. Now he pretends to try to put things right when the diamonds are long finished while trying to shift blame as usual. And there are people who actually believe that bollocks. I just feel like crying.

Editor, please investigate this trip by Mugabe to the World Culture Festival. He left on Monday 7th March for a festival which starts on Friday 11th March. There are no other foreign leaders listed as attending or giving speeches.Even Mugabe is not one of the keynote speakers. There is only one person from the whole of Africa who will speak at this festival and it is Hon.David Musabayana. So what is Mugabe doing there when we have all these problems and where has he gone when the festival starts Friday. This is really showing he does not care about the problems this country is facing.
