Togarepi’s son apologises to Mugabe

ZANU PF politburo member Pupurai Togarepi’s son, Gabriel, who was expelled from the ruling party on Thursday, said he was not accorded the chance to defend himself.

Gabriel told a Press conference in Harare yesterday that he was not sure why he was expelled from Zanu PF because no formal charges were laid against him and was never invited to a disciplinary hearing.

“It is unfortunate that I got expelled from Zanu PF for unknown reasons, though it is alleged that I insulted party leadership,” he said.

Gabriel distanced himself from the other Zanu PF members who last month issued a strong-worded statement denouncing First Lady Grace Mugabe, saying he attended the meeting believing that it was a party-sanctioned programme.

“I might have been associated with the people who insulted the party leadership, but I did not plan with them to insult anyone neither did I help in crafting any statement. But having been named after the President by my father, I would never insult His Excellency and the leadership of the party for any reason,” he said.

Gabriel, who cut a lone figure while reading his prepared statement also took time to apologise to President Robert Mugabe and the Zanu PF leadership and his father for bringing the name of the family into disrepute.

“I also want to apologise to my father, I got into politics following him, not to put the family’s name into disrepute, but to contribute to the revolution in my own way,” he said. Gabriel who is also Zimbabwe War Collaborators’ Trust secretary-general, said he was shocked to learn of his dismissal on national television as he had not even aware that there was a disciplinary hearing against him.

His father is Pupurayi, a youth leader. How old is his father? One can be a youth up to when? It seems one can reach 70 yrs and still be a youth.
This Gabriel ‘youth’ is confused and contradicting himself. In the first part, he is saying he never disrespected the president. In the second part, he is apologising. If its true that he did not excoriate the nonagenarian, WHY is he apologising?
This Gabriel ‘youth’, is funny. Who told him that anyone with the name Gabriel respects the president?

@ Willard. Josiah Tungamirai was still a Zanu-PF Youth leader at 65 when he requested to be relieved of the post at such a ridiculous “youthful” age and his successor Absolom Skosana was still the youths secretary at age 60. So there! Zanu-PF youths for you.

If you have a 92 year old man as a head of State in the 21st century yes 60 year olds are youths in comparison. Zimbabweans have ourselves to blame for ridiculing the whole nation by allowing such an anomaly to happen.

Where was Togarepi when his son was expelled? In Zanu land one needs to belong to the right faction. This is what Togarepi should have sat down and spoke to his son. Not now.

what posoition in the party did this Gabriel hold? Editor, your jounalists must do a better job. If he is just a member with no position, was NDC supposed to discuss his case or it must be a case handled by a cell disciplinary committee? If anything the story should have only been reported as a comic one that father Pupurayi Togarepi fires own son Gabriel from Zanu Pf

So Pupurai and Gabriel, father and son, are both youth members? Either the father is too young or the son is too old! Either way, something isn’t adding up.

  15. Politician March 7, 2016 at 6:17 am #

Gabriel you have exposed your father Pupurai . Forget abt all the praises he got from The President; it is now very clear that on one hand he wants to appear to be pro-President but on the other he sents you and your friends to denigrate the very same President. Wanyudza Mudhara wako Mfana.
