More Zanu PF chefs axed

PURGES in the ruling Zanu PF have continued despite President Robert Mugabe’s call on warring factions in his party to “shut up and work as one”.

Mugabe last Friday hastily made a state of the nation address, where he called on warring party members to bury their differences.

He declared: “It is time that we show our disciplinary whip and use it . . . shut up, Lacoste, shut up, G40.”

But his call appears to have gone unheeded as Zanu PF Mashonaland East province immediately suspended five executive members, accusing them of indiscipline and belonging to Vice-President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s alleged Lacoste faction on Saturday.

These are Deputy Speaker of the House of Assembly and Mutoko North MP Mabel Chinomona, Goromonzi legislator Petronella Kagonye, youth league secretary-general Fungai Muhamadi and an executive member only identified as Bosha.

Acting provincial chairman Benard Makokove announced the suspensions shortly after a provincial co-ordinating committee meeting attended by politburo member Sydney Sekeramayi.

The suspensions came hot on the heels of yet another meeting last week, which saw the suspension of provincial chairperson Joel Biggie Matiza, women’s league boss Apolonia Munzverengi and provincial commissar Herbert Shumbamhini.

An insider, who refused to be named, said the suspensions were only just beginning because there was an elaborate plan to kick out all those opposed to G40 in the province.

G40 is said to be led by First Lady Grace Mugabe and has Zanu PF political commissar Saviour Kasukuwere and Vice-President Phelekezela Mphoko, among others, in its hierarchy.

“We have reached a level where the provincial executive should be dissolved because it has now lost more people and I assure you the Chinomona, Bosha and Kagonye suspensions are not the end. We are likely to have more suspensions before the end of this month,” the insider added.

Kasukuwere professed ignorance over the alleged suspensions.

“I am not aware of the suspensions because we have not been notified. Once we are notified, we will deal with the issue in line with party procedures,” he said.

  1. That’s a positive development. We should get rid of these people by mid this year. Another prime target has to be Dokora who is a security threat to the education sector. His actions are causing unnecessary dispondency among educationists and that is being done to scare off our supporters. He should take a cue from Zhuwao who successfully defended youths in his ministry and that has worked well to consolidate our vibrant youth wing.
