Speaking to NewsDay on the sidelines of Miss World Zimbabwe 2016 Bulawayo auditions at the weekend, the pageant’s spokesperson Tendai Chirau said this year’s edition was running under the theme, “Celebrating the Life of our Icon, Kiki Divaris”.

“This year it’s all about honouring the life of an icon. Kiki was a respected woman who paved the way for modelling in Zimbabwe and her mentorship will always guide us to greater heights,” Chirau said.

He said the Harare auditions will be held next week ahead of the grand finale scheduled for on April 16 at the Borrowdale Brooke Golf Course.

Divaris — real name Vassiliki Babaletakis — passed away in December last year at the age of 90 after decades of service to the local modelling industry.

A few aspiring contestants who turned out for the auditions were turned away after it emerged that they participated in last year’s pageant, and that automatically disqualified them according to the new rules and regulations.

“When the girls are together we will host a fashion show in honour of Kiki, the girls will strutt their stuff on the ramp in some of Kiki’s favourite clothes,” Chirau said.

Boot camp will commence on March 15 at the Rainbow Towers Hotel in Harare.
