Maxwell Ramushi (30), of Zengeza 1, was remanded in custody to February 18 by Chitungwiza magistrate Takunda Mutetwa.

Circumstances leading to Ramushi’s arrest were that on February 8, Zesa received information to the effect that the suspect was carrying out disconnections at households with outstanding bills after misrepresenting himself as an employee of the power utility.

Zesa loss control officers and members of the Zimbabwe Republic Police later raided a house in Unit K where they allegedly found Ramushi carrying out illegal disconnections, leading to his arrest.

The State alleges that Ramushi was armed with a fake Zimbabwe Electricity Transmission and Distribution Company disconnections list and demanded cash from his victims to restore electricity which he would have disconnected.

Two miniature circuit breakers, a screwdriver and the fake debtors’ list bearing fake electricity account numbers were recovered from Ramushi upon his arrest. Norman Koropi prosecuted.
