OVER 30 primary and secondary school teachers participated in the first ever Marimba workshop organised by Tambarimba Arts last week.

The workshop, which ended last Friday, was aimed at equipping the 37 teachers with marimba playing and teaching skills so that they will be able to nurture talent from the grassroots at their schools.
Some of the teachers came from as far as Gokwe, Rusape and Hwedza.
Tambarimba Arts founding director Don Chidavaenzi said the workshop’s main objective was to empower the teachers with relevant techniques needed to teach pupils to play the music instrument.
“The workshop was mainly meant for Marimba teachers and the idea was to equip them with skills that will enable them to nurture and promote Zimbabwean talent from the grassroots,” he said.
The guest of honour, Chipo Muwezwa from Culture Fund, applauded the organisers for their “commitment and work done in developing talent in the country”.

One of the trainers, Chris Timbe, said they were training teachers in a way that will enable them to explore their students’ talent.
“I am so happy to interact with you. We need to nurture talent by showcasing what we know, students need exposure and time to explore their instruments and I would like to thank everyone who came through,” he said.
Chidavaenzi said the attendance was very encouraging and overwhelming since all went according to plans.
