DeMbare coaches scuffle

DYNAMOS’ Portuguese coach Paulo Silva was involved in a dressing room bust-up with goalkeepers coach Gift Muzadzi over the selection of goalminders before their friendly matches against ZRP FC and WhaWha at Rufaro Stadium yesterday.

NewsDay Sport was informed yesterday that the two had a verbal spat, which nearly degenerated to a fist fight, before club secretary-general Webster Chikengezha intervened to cool down tempers.

After their clash, Silva demanded Muzadzi leave the dressing room and also barred him from the bench.

Silva, who has divided opinion since his appointment, refused to speak to the media after the match, in protest of the negative stories that have been published about him.

On Saturday NewsDay lifted the lid on his murky coaching history and he was not too pleased about it.

Muzadzi was not on the technical bench, as the former champions walloped WhaWha 4-0 in a match they dominated and exhibited their shooting prowess.

Silva was against playing Ashley Reyners, whom Muzadzi wanted to play. The DeMbare head coach came close to substituting the same goalkeeper after just five minutes of their friendly match against Zambia’s Kabwe Warriors recently.

Both coaches are former goalkeepers.

Efforts to get a comment from Chikengezha were fruitless last night.

Rodreck Mutuma, who was in excellent form and scored one of the goals, was the major talking point after the match after his botched attempt to copy the famous Lionel Messi and Luis Suarez penalty drill.

Walter Mukanga was brought down in the penalty area, as he charged at goal and the referee awarded Dynamos a penalty.

Mutuma stepped up to take responsibility. He then squared the ball for Valentine Ndaba, but an alert WhaWha defender beat the Dynamos new boy to the ball and cleared it to safety.

Despite the penalty boob, Dynamos gave their fans a tantalising glimpse of what to expect in the coming season, as they displayed flair and good finishing.

Mukanga sent Dynamos into the lead in the first half with a brilliant header, before Farai Mupasiri added the second. Mutuma then made it 3-0 with a brilliant finish beating the goalkeeper before slotting the ball into the net.

Utility player, Godknows Murwira then wrapped up the contest with a fierce shot that beat the goalkeeper to make it 4-0.

If they could play as they did yesterday, the former champions could win the league title season under Silva after they were beaten to the title by Bulawayo side Chicken Inn last term.

Dynamos are set to travel to Malawi on March 3, where they are scheduled to play friendly matches as part of their pre-season preparations.

After the Malawi trip, club secretary, Chikengezha said the team will go to Tanzania for another international friendly match, as they ready for the league marathon.
