Chipo Masiya was convicted and sentenced on her own plea of guilty to the offence when she appeared before Chinhoyi magistrate Patience Chirimo last week.
Masiya will, however, serve an effective 20 months’ prison term after 16 months were suspended.
During trial, Masiya claimed that she survived on earnings from the sale of the drug.
The court ordered the destruction of the drug.
It was the State case that sometime last week, Masiya was found in possession of the mbanje aboard a Harare-bound bus after police mounted a roadblock and conducted a random search on passengers on the bus. Masiya was not represented.
