Speaking on the sidelines of his team’s training session at the Sheikh Abu Naser Stadium in Khulna yesterday, Whatmore admitted that Bangladesh are a stronger outfit, but is confident his charges can get back on their feet after defeats against Afghanistan.

“Bangladesh are now a very strong side. They now win regularly,” Whatmore told bdcricteam.com.

“Playing against Bangladesh will be a big challenge for us because we have just lost to Afghanistan, so we somewhat are in some kind of trouble. But now we want to get back on track here in Khulna,” the Zimbabwe coach added.

“Despite the defeat against Afghanistan, we are a bit shocked, but not mentally broken. We know we have to make a comeback, and that could come in the coming T20 games,” Whatmore said

Zimbabwe, who recently lost dismally to Afghanistan in both the one-day international (ODI) and T20 series have made a couple of changes to their squad.

Batsman Vusi Sibanda and left-arm seamer Brian Vitori return to the squad for the four T20s against Bangladesh.

Sean Williams, who was ruled out of Zimbabwe’s ongoing T20 series against Afghanistan with a groin injury, is also part of the 16-man side, while Tinashe Panyangara and Craig Ervine are both still out.

Zimbabwe visited Bangladesh for a three-match ODI and two-match T20 series in November last year. They were whitewashed in the ODI series and drew the T20 series 1-1 after Neville Madziva produced a last over heroic to avoid the tour sweep.

Meanwhile, after the opening match tomorrow the two teams will square off in three more T20s scheduled January 17, 20 and 22.

All matches will be played at the Sheikh Abu Naser Stadium in Khulna.
